Kongsberg Maritime has secured a substantial contract with a major energy operator to supply advanced deck machinery for a new Floating Production, Storage and Offloading vessel destined for an offshore development in Asia, the Norwegian company announced on 18 August 2026.

Scope of the Contract

The agreement covers a fully integrated mooring and deck machinery solution comprising chain pull-in winches, chain stoppers, fairleads, riser pull-in winches, and associated control and automation systems.

Delivery of the complete equipment package is scheduled for mid-2027. A technically significant aspect of the project is the large mooring chain dimension involved, which Kongsberg Maritime said reflects both the demanding operating conditions of the FPSO and the company's capacity to design and supply high-capacity, heavy-duty deck machinery suited to complex offshore environments.

Division of Responsibilities

Under the terms of the contract, IP Huse will be responsible for the mechanical design of the deck machinery, while Kongsberg Maritime will handle the automation and control systems as well as overall project management.

The mechanical components will be manufactured in Norway at IP Huse's facilities on Harøy, a setup the company said is intended to ensure close integration between engineering, production, and delivery.

Marte Tyldum, Senior Vice President of Kongsberg Maritime Handling, described the project as a demonstration of the company's engineering and automation capabilities.

"This project demonstrates our ability to deliver robust deck machinery solutions for complex offshore applications, combining strong engineering competence with reliable automation and control systems," she said.

A Repeat Relationship with the Customer

Kongsberg Maritime described the award as a repeat order from the same customer, following an earlier contract the company secured for a separate FPSO development by the same energy operator.

The company said the new agreement further strengthens the established relationship between the two organisations and builds on what it characterised as successful prior project execution.

Tyldum added that the company was pleased to continue its cooperation with the customer on another FPSO development, signalling that the relationship has become an ongoing one across multiple projects.

Norwegian Manufacturing at the Core

The contract places Norwegian industrial capability at its centre, with IP Huse's manufacturing facilities on Harøy serving as the production base for the mechanical components.

Kongsberg Maritime framed this arrangement as part of a broader approach to combining domestic manufacturing expertise with advanced automation and project management to support FPSO operators working in demanding offshore conditions.

The company said it continues to pursue scalable solutions tailored to the specific requirements of offshore developments, positioning its integrated approach to deck machinery as a key differentiator in securing contracts for complex projects of this nature.
