Saipem has been awarded a new contract by GOE Petrol Sanayi to carry out commissioning services for the Osman Gazi Floating Production Unit, a key piece of infrastructure being developed for the Sakarya gas field in the Turkish Black Sea. The announcement was made on September 8, 2026.

A Second Contract in Quick Succession

The latest award follows an earlier contract granted to Saipem in April 2026 for Operation Readiness and Assurance support services on the same project. The two successive contracts signal a deepening relationship between Saipem and GOE Petrol Sanayi and reflect the Italian energy contractor's growing footprint in the Turkish energy market.

The company described the new award as further strengthening its involvement in one of the most significant energy projects currently under development in Türkiye.

The Sakarya Field and Its Strategic Importance

The Sakarya gas field was discovered in August 2020 and is being developed by Turkish Petroleum Corporation, known as TPAO. The field is situated approximately 170 kilometres offshore in the Black Sea, at a water depth of around 2,150 metres.

According to Saipem, it represents one of Turkey's most significant natural gas discoveries in recent years, making the development of its production infrastructure a matter of considerable national energy interest. The Osman Gazi Floating Production Unit is the central offshore facility intended to bring the Sakarya field into production.

Commissioning services of the kind awarded to Saipem are a critical phase in readying such complex offshore infrastructure for safe and sustained operation, covering the systematic testing and verification of all systems before a facility transitions to full production status.

Scope and Duration of the Contract

Saipem stated that the scope of work under the newly awarded contract carries an expected duration of approximately eight months.

The company said the work will be executed in accordance with the highest safety and quality standards, and that it will draw on Saipem's expertise in the commissioning of complex energy facilities. No financial value for the contract was disclosed in the announcement.

Saipem's Position in the Turkish Market

Saipem described the contract as contributing to the strengthening of its presence in the Turkish market. The back-to-back nature of the two contracts awarded on the Sakarya project, first the Operation Readiness and Assurance work in April 2026 and now the commissioning services engagement, positions the company as a key technical services provider on what is widely regarded as one of Türkiye's flagship upstream energy developments.

The Sakarya field's location in deep water and its offshore distance from the Turkish coastline place it among the more technically demanding developments in the region, requiring specialized expertise of the kind Saipem cited in its announcement.
