MODEC, Inc. has announced the safe arrival of the Floating Production, Storage and Offloading vessel FPSO Errea Wittu in Guyana, marking a major milestone in the development of offshore oil resources in the country's prolific Stabroek block.

The vessel, developed for ExxonMobil Guyana, will integrate the development of the Snoek, Mako and Uaru resources, and represents MODEC's first FPSO deployed in Guyana and its 18th FPSO or FSO project delivered for operations in South America.

Offshore Commissioning to Precede First Oil

Following its arrival, the FPSO Errea Wittu will undergo final offshore preparations and commissioning before achieving first oil. MODEC stated it is working closely with its client and local stakeholders to ensure the safe and efficient integration of the vessel into Guyana's offshore operations.

The company has framed the deployment as part of a broader commitment to long-term value creation for Guyana and the wider region. Soichi Ide, Head of MODEC's Floating Production Solutions Business Unit, described the arrival as a significant milestone for all parties involved.

"From early-stage engineering, procurement, and construction to onshore commissioning and final delivery, every step was made possible through teamwork."

Vessel Design and Technical Specifications

The FPSO Errea Wittu is constructed on MODEC's new-built hull design, which features a full double hull and a larger topsides deck area to accommodate high-capacity processing systems.

The vessel is equipped with a Gas Turbine Combined Cycle system, which MODEC said helps reduce carbon dioxide emissions and supports more efficient operations.

The company described these design features as enhancing reliability and ensuring long-term productivity while minimizing the vessel's environmental footprint.

The FPSO will be deployed approximately 200 kilometers offshore Guyana at a water depth of 1,690 meters. It will be held in position using a SOFEC Spread Mooring System and will be capable of storing around 2 million barrels of crude oil. The vessel's design also incorporates advanced digital and artificial intelligence capabilities.

According to MODEC, the FPSO's systems support future remote operations from shore, while its AI-enabled technology is designed to predict equipment failures, reduce emissions, and enhance process safety insights.

The company said these features are intended to enable smarter, safer, and more sustainable offshore operations over the vessel's operational life.

Long-Term Operations and Maintenance Role

Beyond delivering the vessel, MODEC will also provide ExxonMobil Guyana with ongoing operations and maintenance services for the FPSO. The company characterized this arrangement as positioning it not only as a delivery partner but as a long-term lifecycle partner focused on resilience, reliability, and performance.

MODEC indicated that this extended engagement reflects a deliberate strategy of remaining involved with deployed assets beyond the initial construction and commissioning phase.

The operations and maintenance commitment reinforces MODEC's sustained presence in Guyana's offshore sector and provides a framework for continued collaboration between the company and ExxonMobil Guyana throughout the vessel's productive life.

Local Development and In-Country Value

MODEC has placed particular emphasis on the arrival of FPSO Errea Wittu as a signal of its longer-term intentions in Guyana beyond the immediate offshore energy deliverable. The company stated it is focused on supporting local development through collaboration with Guyanese stakeholders, knowledge sharing, skills development, and contributions that create lasting value in-country.

The deployment of FPSO Errea Wittu brings MODEC's total count of FPSO and FSO projects delivered for operations in South America to 18. The vessel also represents the company's first FPSO project in Guyana specifically, extending its South American footprint into a country that has emerged as one of the region's most active deepwater oil development frontiers.

Guyana's Stabroek Block, operated by ExxonMobil Guyana, has been the site of significant offshore development activity in recent years. The integration of the Snoek, Mako and Uaru resources through the new FPSO adds another chapter to that development story, with MODEC positioned as both the vessel constructor and the long-term operational partner for the asset.
